41-year-old, Aaron Rothwell, an IT specialist with the Edmonton police, was suspended without pay and charged with child pornography offences over the weekend. Police searched his home on April 7 following an investigation by the Child Exploitation Unit. The charges include the making and distribution of child pornography, but the Edmonton police have confirmed that no children were harmed.

Inspector David Dubnyk told media that Rothwell had begun chatting with an undercover officer who he believed was the parent of a child being offered for sexual services.

Rothwell served in an IT role that did not involve communications or interactions with the public, the Edmonton police confirmed.
