Designated Survivor  Actor Slams Doug Ford

Kiefer Sutherland, actor and former Canadian, slammed Doug Ford on June 10th following a tweet by the Ontario premier in which he referenced Tommy Douglas' understanding of debt. Tommy Douglas is the grandfather of Kiefer Sutherland, who is the son of famed actor Donald Sutherland.

In what appeared to be a pre-written statement imaged in a tweet, the Designated Survivor  star called Doug Ford's comparison to Tommy Douglas "offensive". The actor wrote, "I personally find your comparison of your policies to his offensive."

Sutherland closed his statement by using an old, political reference once made about Jack Kennedy, "You sir, are no Tommy Douglas." Tommy Douglas, of course, was the famous Saskatchewan politician who is credited as the father of Canadian healthcare. Douglas was also a known eugenicist and Communist sympathizer.

Sutherland's statement also credits Tommy Douglas with providing Saskatchewan with "paved roads" and electricity. However, this has been something provided by every Saskatchewan premier since Tommy Douglas and is something currently being provided to Ontarions by Doug Ford's Progressive Conservative government.

Sutherland's tweet failed to mention that Saskatchewan suffered under perpetual NDP governments long after the death of his grandfather. New Democratic governments that have followed in the footsteps of Tommy Douglas have kept Saskatchewan in a state of economic stagnation with high taxes and high rates of poverty and crime. Saskatchewan has consistently ranked as one of the weakest economic powers West of Ontario and one of Canada's top crime capitals.

Kiefer Sutherland was correct in saying that Doug Ford is no Tommy Douglas, as no politician in Canada should ever use Tommy Douglas as a model. His party's economic roadmaps have paved the way for severe economic hardship in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Ontario once elected an NDP government, only to propel their province into a state of near economic ruin, learning never to elect another NDP government again.

Tommy Douglas was a socialist and socialism has never worked anywhere it has been tried.

Kiefer Sutherland is right. Doug Ford is no socialist.
